Whisky Galore

whisky galore

Book by Shona McKee
Music and Lyrics by Ian Hammond Brown
2006

“ So drink to your heart’s content – you couldn’t want for more,
Dream of an island lass who’s waiting by the shore
A toast to your health, Slainte mhath, slainte mhor
And raise your glass to him above who sent us Whisky Galore!”

whisky galoreSet on a remote Scottish island during the Second World War, the locals are experiencing a crisis – the Whisky has run out! However, it looks like their prayers are answered when the SS Cabinet Minister runs aground on their shore – it’s cargo – thousands of barrels of Whisky!

A hilarious tale of subterfuge ensues! This well known Scottish novel by Compton Mackenzie was made into a very successful Ealing Comedy in the 1950’s. This is the first time the Author’s Estate have granted a company the rights to turn it into a musical and we are privileged to be doing so.

PRODUCTION HISTORY/NEWS

The Company was given the rights to create the very first Musical version of this book in 2005. Ian Hammond Brown and Shona McKee were commissioned as Composer and Book Writer respectively. Working with the Director – Nick Farr, they have created a wonderful Musical which captures the heart and soul of the Scottish Islands in Wartime Britain.
