About Cutting Edge Theatre Company

Cutting Edge Theatre Productions has been formed with the specific aim of producing primarily Musical Theatre. CETP has grown from Cutting Edge Theatre Company [CETC] which was formed in 1995 to contribute to the "spiritual, social and economic vitality of Scotland" by producing works of high quality to be seen by a wide variety of audiences. The company is limited by guarantee and currently a registered charity with a Board of Directors.

CETC was formed in 1995 as part of a Christian Charity Organisation [Youth with a Mission Scotland]. This organisation had a remit to form a professional Theatre Company who would examine social issues through the use of Theatre. Being part of the Charity meant that there was financial and managerial support especially in the initial stages. There was an educational aspect to the company which provided workshops for schools and communities nationally and overseas and also bringing touring productions, teaching and participating in the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. By October 2001 Cutting Edge Theatre Productions became a formal company.

AIM: Cutting Edge exists “to make a difference in people’s lives”. We do this by:

OBJECTIVES:

  1. Engaging with Communities, encouraging them to be part of a production where the process of gaining self confidence, learning new skills and achieving their potential is as important as the play itself.

    We currently work on 2 large scale community plays in Glasgow and Edinburgh with annual productions that are open air promenade productions.
  1. Inspiring young people to discover their talents, learn new skills, gain confidence through Drama Workshops and productions, all of which are tailored to meeting the Curriculum for Excellence objectives.
  1. Addressing contemporary issues facing young people through Drama and Musical Theatre Workshops and productions. We currently are developing a Suicide Prevention Production that will tour Scottish Schools.
  1. Running “Children in Overseas Theatre Scheme” [COTS] which uses creativity in all art forms with children who are outcasts in their society [street kids, orphans, special needs etc]. By exposing Scottish young people to other cultures, they and the host nation learn from each other, are challenged in perceptions and work together to create an artistic outcome.  This project also encourages the sharing of artistic talents between Scotland and other nations.
  1. Creating a vibrant network of Musical Theatre in Scotland by encouraging local writing; commissioning original productions, running workshops and seminars and producing new and existing Musicals.
